At 31 years old, Margot Robbie is one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood—so you’d think she’d have a few tricks up her sleeve for maintaining a camera-ready complexion. But she readily admits that there are no shortcuts.
“It’s all the things that we knew all along: wear SPF, drink lots of water, get enough sleep. We keep trying all these ways to find a secret recipe for youth—this cream or that cream, this diet or that diet—and it’s all the stuff you knew from the beginning but were trying to find a way around. Ultimately, you realize, ‘Oh yeah, I do look my best when I’ve had 10 hours of sleep and drunk a liter of water.’ It’s the simple things that work.”
As such, she makes it a priority to eat well, sleep and exercise, alongside a surprisingly simple skincare routine. Rather than risk irritation with harsh actives, she focuses on cleansing her skin from the heavy makeup she has to wear on set, and delivering much-needed hydration.
Even still, she sometimes struggles with sensitive skin and the occasional breakout. “For photoshoots, I don’t even worry anymore because with Photoshop these days, if I wake up with a massive pimple, I’m like, they’re gonna airbrush it out, it doesn’t matter. I get more scared when I’m filming.”

Margot Robbie’s Skincare Routine (At a Glance)
Her Morning Skincare Routine
Lancer The Method: Cleanse: “One of the great things about my job is that I’m lucky enough to work with so many amazing makeup artists who introduce me to new products, which means I switch up my skincare routine and makeup products quite a lot. I will always start by cleansing my face. At the moment I’m using a Dr. Lancer cleanser.”
2. Eye Cream
La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Cream: “When I get out [of the shower], I dab on some La Prairie eye cream.”
3. Face Mists
Aesop Immediate Moisture Facial Hydrosol: “I’m not a big fan of serums as my skin can be quite sensitive and sometimes it reacts to them, but I do love facial mists. Aesop has really good facial mists that I have in my bag all the time because my skin gets so dry. Everything from Aesop smells so good.”
Caudalie Beauty Elixir: “I keep this hydrating spray in my bag at all times; I mist it on like crazy! It has an amazing herbal scent that wakes me up.”
La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream: “For moisturizers I love the La Prairie moisturizer.”
5. Lip Balms
Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm: “I always keep a little Burt’s Bees tinted rose lip balm on me.”
Fresh Sugar Lip Balm Sunscreen SPF 15: “I don’t like wearing lipstick because I get it all over my face, so I wear lip balm with a bit of a stain, like Burt’s Bees or Fresh.”
Her Nighttime Skincare Routine
1. Face Wipes
Johnson’s Make-Up Be Gone 5-in-1 Refreshing Cleansing Wipes: “No matter how drunk I am, I don’t go to sleep with makeup on. As soon as I get home, I scrub it off. I use Johnson makeup wipes."
Lancer The Method: Cleanse: “I’m anal-retentive about having really clean skin. Especially with my job, where they just layer makeup on and on and on.”
Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion Correction Pads: “I honestly stumbled across them, and now I can’t live without them. Your skin is better after. They’re really strong.”
La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream: “At the moment at night I’m using a Dr. Lancer cleanser and a La Prairie moisturizer.”
5. Lip Balm
Bepanthen Nappy Care Ointment: “And then my lip balm, I use Bepanthen, which is actually a nipple cream for breastfeeding mothers or diaper rash cream for babies. I have a conspiracy theory that lip balms actually have additives in them to dry your lips out so you keep buying them. But because Bepanthen is just a cream for dry skin, it works. It’s what I’ve used my whole life.”
Her Skincare Treatments
111Skin Rose Gold Brightening Facial Treatment Mask: “One brand I’m obsessed with right now is this brand Skin111, which my makeup artist Patti Dubroff got me hooked on. They have these sheet masks, they’re made out of a jelly sort of stuff and the serum they’re soaked in is so good. So when we’re getting ready for an event she’ll put one of those on while she’s doing my hair. The 111Skin Rose Gold Mask is unbelievable.”
Talika Eye Therapy Patch: “While I’m getting my hair done, I put on Talika under-eye patches. They help with puffiness.”
ZIIP GX Electrical Facial Device: “I’ve been using this microcurrent device called ZIIP which has given me noticeable results. I’m not paid by the brand or anything, it’s really, really good.”
ReFa S Carat: “Good skin is all about good skin prep.”
Her Diet, Exercise and Lifestyle
“If I eat or drink heaps of dairy, my skin breaks out. I love dairy and I have it all the time but if I’m filming or if my skin is really shit, then I try to cut down and just drink lots of water. I love food, I love wine and I love having a good time with my friends. But I also don’t love the feeling of knowing that I don’t look my best. Eating well and exercise need to be prevalent in my life so that I can feel my best, but I don’t want to dwell on it too much.”
“If I’m making a conscious effort to exercise, I work with a Pilates trainer on a reformer machine, and that suits me and my body best. But I like to play tennis, run around the park or do a dance class with girlfriends. Disguising exercise in your day-to-day activities is the funnest way to do it in my opinion.”
“I’m something of an insomniac; I’ve got eye masks and sleep music and melatonin and lots of soothing scents. I do everything possible to try to sleep better. I feel like my body looks better if I get more sleep rather than an hour at the gym.”
“Something I’ve been talking about with my girlfriends lately is that we all look our best when we’re smiling and having fun—when I catch people in that moment when they’re genuinely laughing, that’s when they’re glowing and look gorgeous. I think having fun and being free is the most attractive thing… doing whatever makes you feel your best so that you show your best qualities to the world.”
