The annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show may have been cancelled in 2019, but Elsa Hosk—who was one of the brand’s most popular Angels—shows no signs of slowing down.
The 33-year-old Swedish supermodel has been a fixture on the catwalk and in fashion campaigns since she started working at the tender age of 14. These days, we’re just as likely to see her on Instagram, where she has more than seven million followers and has become an influencer in her own right, too.

But while many in her target audience are focusing on her sense of style (or how she looks in a bikini), some of us have been paying more attention to her face. There’s no question that her features have changed since she catapulted to fame—and I’m not so sure that we can attribute it to makeup.
Let’s take a closer look at Elsa’s beauty evolution from her teenage years until now.
From 2005: Elsa as a Teen
In High School in 2005
Our first photo (which Elsa herself shared on Instagram) dates back to 2005, when she was just 16 years old. Even with braces, it’s clear that she was “model material” from a young age. We can see that she’s a natural blonde, and her blue eyes were always incredibly striking.
From 2012-2017: The Victoria’s Secret Years
On Instagram in 2012
Fast-forward to 2012, and she’d moved from her native Stockholm to New York City, where her modelling career was taking off. Here, in another shot from her Instagram, she showed off her natural freckles—and what appear to be her natural, filler-free lips. Fun fact: makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift created this look with her own RMS Beauty products.
At the 2013 Angel Ball
By age 24, Elsa was a regular on the Victoria’s Secret runway, although she wouldn’t officially get her Angel wings until two years later. I love how natural she looks with sandy blonde hair and seemingly foundation-free skin. But see how the sides of her nose (the “nasal wings”) seem carved out? And how her nasal tip almost droops down? These atypical features suggest a possible rhinoplasty took place early on in her career.

As you can see, Elsa’s love of over-lined lips goes way back—although they weren’t exaggerated to the point they are now, and they don’t appear to be puffed up with fillers (yet!). At this point, she still had a “girl next door” vibe, enhanced by casual, loose waves and soft brown smoky eyes.

But the fresh-faced aesthetic wouldn’t last. The following year, she amped things up with a radically lighter yellow-blonde hair colour (which seems to bring out the redness in her skin). Also notice the black winged liner, which would soon become her signature makeup look. Her nose is super petite and button-like.

Next, she added a spray tan and contoured cheeks to her red carpet repertoire. The warm tones are surprisingly flattering (and it helps that she toned down her hair colour to a warmer, wheat shade). If her upper lip is any indication, she may have started lip injections around this time. Even under the ring of lip liner, her lips seem fuller, and her Cupid’s bow is starting to disappear (something that also happened to Kylie Jenner from using lip fillers).
At the 2017 Revolve Awards
By the time she was 28, Elsa was clearly a lot more confident in trying out different looks—like this faux bob with a chic black headband and ‘60s-inspired eyeliner. Her lips still appear bee-stung from what is likely a combination of fillers and lip liner... and I can’t help but notice how unnaturally small her nose looks. (Do noses like this even exist in Nature?!) There’s also a new development since 2015—that one lifted brow.
From 2018-2020: Elsa Enhanced
At the 2018 Revolve Awards
While I suspected Elsa had been tinkering with cosmetic procedures for a few years, she apparently took things to the next level once she parted ways with Victoria’s Secret. These lips are far from subtle! Now, it’s not just the top one that is plumped; both are so full that they almost overpower her delicate features. Along with her raised eyebrow (which may be from Botox) and button nose, she definitely looks “enhanced.”
At the 2019 Revolve Awards
She was even more doll-like in 2019, thanks to an exaggerated application of red lipstick and matching lip liner. It’s very pretty, don’t get me wrong—but I also stare at her and think, “Is this even a real person?!” (Know what I mean?) Her skin looks incredibly bright and smooth, and there’s only a faint trace of the freckles that she had back in 2016.
On Instagram in 2020
Without any red carpet events to get dressed up for in 2020, Elsa shared looks via her Instagram instead. Despite the fact that cosmetic clinics were shut down for months, her lips showed no signs of deflating. (She also demonstrated her go-to lip-lining technique in a video here.)
From 2021-2022: Model Mom
At the 2021 Daily Front Row Fashion Media Awards
Like many celebs, Elsa had a pandemic baby in 2021. Only six months later, she returned to the red carpet—and are you seeing what I’m seeing? Her lips are noticeably smaller here. For a new, first-time mom, that would make total sense to let the fillers deflate while she focuses on the demands of motherhood.
At the 2022 Revolve Festival
A year after giving birth, she was back in the groove—and her lips were back to their former size as well. (Actually, they might be even bigger now!) If you look closely, you can see a dip in the middle of her lower one, with volume on either side. This is a specific look that fillers can achieve, known as “double lobed lips.” We’ve previously seen the same technique on Dove Cameron.
Elsa Hosk Before and After
Elsa in 2005 vs 2019
Elsa is one of the most naturally beautiful women in the world. But looking at this before-and-after comparison, apparently even she has succumbed to the current trend of enhancing her lips with fillers. We know that she was over-lining her lips long before the change in lip volume, so makeup alone can’t explain this!
And her lips may not be the only area that she’s had injected. As a teenager, she didn’t have that one quizzical brow—it only started to become apparent around 2016-2017. Botox can trigger such an effect, a phenomenon known as “Spocking,” so she may have used it to lift her brows and create more dramatic arches. Of course, her forehead is also smooth and line-free at age 33.
As for her nose, it’s a little harder to tell whether she may have surgically altered it. Since she is smiling in the 2005 photo, which automatically makes your nose look wider, we don’t have strong evidence of what it looked like “before.”
Still, going by her profile shot from 2013, I’m reminded of Dove Cameron’s nose and how her tip droops down towards her lips. The same phenomenon may be happening with Elsa, although it’s nowhere near as extreme. I also suspect that she may have had cartilage removed from her nasal wings in order to create such a narrow tip. I don’t know about you, but I just don’t believe that Mother Nature makes noses this tiny!
